A Comprehensive Plan for High Speed Rail in America
Nation (September 18, 2009) — Zach Frechette, GOOD Magazine
A report published by America 2050 offers a comprehensive plan for implementing the proposed nationwide high-speed rail (HSR) system. The article, posted on the Infrastructurist, provides a plan on how to build the system, based on corridor rankings for the most suitable HSR routes. The elements involved in generating these rankings include demographics, travel distance, congestion and transit accessibility for each mega-region. Northeastern corridors, including the NY-Washington DC link, atop the list. Los Angeles, CA and Dallas, CA routes are also in the top ten. Besides proposing a ranking system, the report recommends a three-phase implementation process for investment and construction. The report is considered significant in the sense that it offers empirical evidence to the ranking basis.
