Making Healthy Places Happen

(April 30, 2008) — This special event of the Healthy Places Research Group will offer real-life, local examples of how to make healthy places. While the Atlanta metro faces challenges to maintain and enhance quality of life and community health, there are beacons of hope and success that offer practical strategies to support healthy lifestyles for all. In a panel discussion we will hear about local government policies and plans to promote wellbeing; development practices to create livable places; and aproaches to retrofit an auto-oriented urban area to support walking, biking and transit.

Will the Atlanta BeltLine Impact Community Health?

(July 14, 2007) — The Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development has conducted a Health Impact Assessment of the Atlanta BeltLine, a 22-mile redevelopment project that encircles the core of the city. This HIA is one of the first conducted in the US.

Growth Leadership for Florida 2060

(December 13, 2006) — On Dec. 6, 1000 Friends of Florida announced their Florida 2060 initiative. The kick off included the release of the report, A Time for Leadership: Growth Management and Florida 2060, which was produced by the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD). The report is a review of current policies in Florida and their implications for the state, as well as a series of recommendations of how best to meet critical challenges.

Coastal Georgia Population to Grow 50 Percent

(October 20, 2006) — By 2030, projections show that over 840,000 people will call the Georgia coast home. That is up 50 percent from the roughly 558,000 people living there in 2000. These findings are the result of a recently released study commissioned by the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center and conducted by the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development, a research arm of Georgia Tech’s College of Architecture.
